Skills such as keyboarding, data entry, record-keeping a basic accounting are all things that are necessary on the résumé of those applying for work as administrative assistants. Some administrative assistants specialize in one of more aspects of running a business, such as bookkeeping or computer graphics.

Many community colleges and business schools offer the training necessary to acquire these skills. School advisers will be able to offer the prospective student advice on whether or not this career goal is a good fit. Aptitude tests can gauge whether or not a person is likely to succeed in this field.
