The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) offers a variety of certifications for people who have an education and experience in computer technology. One of the most important certifications is the A+ Computer Certification. All entry level computer technicians must have this certification before working with customers who have computer issues. Many businesses do not hire their employees without the proper certification, and this is one of the most popular and necessary certifications computer technicians should have.

A+ Computer Certification Test

The test consists of two exams, CompTIA A+ Essentials and CompTIA A+ Practical Application. Both must be passed before applicants can receive the A+ Computer Certification. The Essentials exam should be taken when the applicant has had at least 500 hours of technical experience. The exam then tests applicants on their computer skills. All IT technicians should have a good understanding of computer hardware, security, networking, operating systems and troubleshooting. They will also be tested on their communication skills with customers and level of professionalism. The Practical Portion of the Exam covers the same objectives as the Essentials, but it takes a more hands-on approach to computer troubleshooting to see how the applicant handles problems and solves them.

An entry level IT technician should take the CompTIA A+ Computer Certification test for many reasons. For one, it looks good on any resume because it shows knowledge, skill and professionalism in your career field. Another reason is certification can help raise the salary of any computer technician. Of course, each person's salary is based on their education, experience and location, but many certified individuals are more likely to earn more than those without certification.

Companies like Microsoft, Cisco, HP, Dell, Intel and many others are requiring that their computer technicians have this certification. They want to make sure that their employees have the knowledge and professionalism to help customers with their computer issues, whether over the phone, online or in person.

Exam Information

Each portion of the exam has 100 questions, and applicants have 90 minutes to take each exam. Scores range from 100-900, and a score of 675 must be met to pass the Essentials portion of the A+ Certification Exam. Also, a score of 700 should be achieved in order to pass the Practical Application section of the exam. This exam is available at many different test sites around the world and can be taken in many different languages. In the United States, the test costs $178. Applicants should go to the CompTIA website for more information on the exam and testing sites in their area. The website also has resources and a list of objectives covered in the exams. Candidates can also purchase books to help them study for the A+ Computer Certification exam.

Why is this Certification Necessary?

Many jobs require certification to prove that the applicants have learned and comprehended the important aspects of their careers. Certification proves that a certain individual has the proper education and experience to work in their field. A computer technician must be aware of how to solve, fix and repair any computer issues that come their way. They can only do this if they have studied and absorbed the information they learned in their education and training programs. Employers are looking for individuals who are capable of solving problems and communicating with customer in a proper way, and the A+ Computer Certification proves that individuals can work in confidence as IT technicians.
